Notes, Profiles & Truths

Modern Meditation is a simple act of simplicity.  It is a practice that rises from simply being present. It is more than finding oneself. It is to truly awaken, to remove everything that is not one’s self – the delusions, the distractions, the influences, the interruptions, of the modern world.

This simple blog is based on that idea.  Of removing all the confusion and distractions that can prevent you from living a mindful and meditative life.  We include Questions and Answers from students and clients.  We feature profiles of people who exemplify the ideals of Modern Meditation.  We also include the simple observations of our founder – Jeff Cannon – that we feel are inspired or will inspire and awakening in you.

From the streets of New York City to the shanties of Nepal – this blog is about creating a meditative and mindful approach to living in the contemporary world of today.

We welcome all positive your feedback and thoughts.

We welcome you to our growing community of Modern Meditators.

Last Walking Meditation Along The Hudson – 2016

It is almost the Autumnal Equinox. The point where the sun sets at the same time and in the same place that it did when we began our Walking Meditation Along The Hudson. The sun did not fail to astound us with a farewell explosion of color, just as it did when we both began our aligned journey back on March 20th. When we began the sun set just after our walk at 7:30. Over the summer we watched as the sun set later and later, and further and further North. We not only enjoyed our walks and our meditations, but we were able to witness the giant...

Meditation: Mindful Negotiations

Meditation: Mindful Negotiations

Mindful Negotiations Is the glass half empty or half full? It is a simple question. So is the answer. It all depends on your perspective. The answer you provide is a deep insight into who you are and how you view the world around you. In effect, you are what you think. The glass is just a glass. It is a reflection of you. It is not the glass that is half empty or half full, it is you, it is also the person sitting across from you. You see, you do not live in a binary world of full or empty, “1s” and “0s”, hot or cold,...

Slow Down – Do More

To some people life is all about faster, quicker, sooner. Faster downloads, quicker processing, and sooner, same-day delivery. For those that think they are not performing fast enough, or falling behind in their studies, there’s always Adderall. For some reason we think by running, running, running we will get more done. The problem is the faster you run, the more details you miss, and that is how you fall behind. It is those details that catch you in the end. Sooner or later you will have to go back and edit whatever it is you are...

Choose To Be Mindful

Choose To Be Mindful

Being mindful is not an endeavor confined to a specific time or space. It is a practice that should be woven into every action you take and every reaction you make. Mindfulness is a choice. It is an orientation in the world that you choose to make or to avoid in your everyday acts. When practiced on a consistent basis being mindful will form the foundation upon which you build the habits that will lead you or from unconscious auto-responses to conscious acts, and over time toward enlightenment. Simply drawing a breath, down deep into your...

Labor Day Meditation

Happy Labor Day. Just remember this is more than a day to celebrate the end of summer. It is more than a day to celebrate the workers of the world, or to buy a new car. It is a day to reflect and renew your commitment to the self-labor you require, because when September rolls around it will all get a lot more complicated. With the elections in the U.S. and everything else going on in the world, it is, as they say, ABOUT TO GET REAL. So this Labor Day, let go. And when I say let go, I mean truly LET GO. No that does not mean losing yourself...

Meditation – Nobody is Better Than You

YOU are on your own journey. Even if you find the love of your life, the path you are on is only wide enough for one person. From time to time you may walk beside someone else, at other times you will struggle with yourself. That voice of self-doubt and that feeling of insecurity? They are not real. They are the result of comparing the behind-the-scenes reality of your life with the highly edited film that everyone else has produced of the life they want you to see. The simple truth is they have just as many fears, worries and concerns as you...

Meditation + Game Theory

I was in the Pentagon last week where I had the fortune of being introduced to one of the people working on game theory for them. His primary interest was mathematics. Upon graduating, he joined the government to help them extrapolate the probability of various events taking place around the globe. In short, it was his job to determine how best to develop and allocate our resources in the most efficient way possible for the future. While game theory works on a large scale and within a set arena with what we hope are sane, intelligent leaders,...

Meditation on Tea & Intentions

This morning has been one of meditation, tea and intentions in my New York apartment studio. I woke to the warmth of this late spring day.  A comfortable reminder that we still have June, July and August to get through before feeling the cooling breeze of summer’s end. My wife was up early for her flight.  I helped her with her bags and returned to bed, only to wake and have some tea at nine.  There was a time when I would have started to work, losing my focus and my steam as the day passed by me by.  But today I sat in a calm...

Meditation: Be Like The Sun

Meditation: Be Like The Sun

I sat and watched the sun rise this morning. I saw the sun shine evenly over the entire earth. I realized it does not differentiate between plants and animals, friends and enemies. The sun does not discriminate. I only noticed that those who rise up to greet it, who are closest to, it receive more light and warmth from its radiance. Be like the sun with your Love. Love everyone and everything equally. Let those who believe in you and reflect your own Love rise up to meet you and return your Love to you. Let them revel in the Love and...
